Claire  was taught to knit by her grandmother when she was 6 years old, by the time she was 13 she was hand knitting  jumpers using commercial knitting patterns. Claire has been hand spinning different fibres for over 20 years, and has had numerous solo exhibitions across the South West of England of her hand spun and hand knitted garments, which she designs herself using different eco friendly fibres such as wool, silk, alpaca, mohair and soya protein fibre. The dyes she  uses are natural and the colours come from onion skins, lettuce and ivy berries to name just a few.

Claire is a member of the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen and also a member of the Westward Ho and Bideford Art Society, her work can be seen on the AXIS Database for Contemporary British Visual Artists - www.axisartists.org.uk under the name of Claire Winter

Claire often writes articles in the Smallholder and the Homefarmer magazines on different subjects including hand spinning and hand knitting.
